Dave, this is a great post. You are right that using the word "should" to recommend actions for ourselves and others doesn't quite get us to where we need to be. One action that I am committed to taking is asking others to join in the conversation you posed. I will do this by retweeting on my Twitter account. I think that one thing I can commit to doing is to take whatever small action I can each day to help others. Perhaps small actions by all of us locally will be enough to make a big difference. By the way, using the words "I will commit" feels a whole lot different than "I should."

Dave, great post, thanks for calling us out to action!!

Until each of us understands our individual contribution to the problem we cannot move the blockages we are currently experiencing.

As you mention Dave, it takes a conversation (as opposed to a rant and a rave).

One issue I have been thinking about it the isolation we can enjoy in our favorite forms of information gathering. With the advent of Cable TV and so many choices of subjective news reporting we can miss the learning that can take place with really trying to listen and hear how the other side sees each issue. So I suggest turning on a talk show or news channel you don't necessarily agree with or listen to very often and find a nugget of truth. Then have a conversation with someone about it.

stretch to understand !

You identified the root cause of most problems. Namely, it is easier and more convenient to assign blame on another person or group. In fact, the media captures this occuring routinely. As a society we tend to focus on who to blame rather than what needs to be done to alleviate the problem. I believe the first priorities should be to identify the problem(s), formulate solutions and take action. Only after this is done, should we assign the blame.
